Prof. Dr. Gerold Rahmann
Prof. Dr. agr. habil. Gerold Rahmann was born in 1962 on a dairy farm in East Friesia (Germany). From 1986 till 2002 he was member of an organic farming community and has been active in the Green party from 1986 till today.
From 1984 till 1989 he has studied agricultural economics at the University of Goettingen (Germany) and made his PhD 1993 in rural development. From 1993 till 1999 he was post doc and Assoc. Professor at the Faculty of Organic Agriculture Science of the University of Kassel, Witzenhausen (Germany), were he is Professor till today.
In 2000, he became director of the Thünen Institute of Organic Farming in Trenthorst (Germany). The function of this institute is interdisciplnary research in all aspects of organic farming, mainly in organic animal husbandry and crop production. The institute has a 600 hectares organic certified experimental station, modern laboratories and 100 people staff.
Gerold Rahmann's scientific focus low input farming system development. He has published more than 300 papers (49 ISI listed), more than 25 years experience in organic farming and has worked several years abroad (e.g. in Malawi, Brazil, Sudan, Bangladesh).
Gerold Rahmann is a member of the board of the Interantional Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR).
