Dr. Olugbenga O. AdeOluwa is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Had his first Degree in Agriculture (B. Agric.), M.Sc. in Agronomy (Soil Science) and Ph.D. in Soil Fertility. He was a fellow of German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD) at Universitat Hohenheim, Stuttgart Germany in 2004 and a fellow of Washington State University / United State Department of Agriculture (USDA), USA in 2009. He was the Su-Dean of the then Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Ibadan from 2010 – 2012 and the Course Supervisor of Agriculture, Renewable Natural Resources, Animal Husbandry and Health (GES 105) at the University of Ibadan from 2012 – 2016.
Dr AdeOluwa effective combines research in the area of organic agriculture with community services. His research efforts have contributed to the understanding of appropriate strategies for maintaining soil fertility through informed fertilizer application and other agronomic practices for sustaining soil fertility for different indigenous crops like amaranths, celosia, corchorus, etc. His major contributions in the area of fertilizer use and manufacture is the development of organic fertilizers from locally available organic materials, that are otherwise nuisance in the environment, to address food security challenges in a sustainable manner, as well as contribute to greening the environment.
Dr. AdeOluwa is an expert on organic agriculture. He is a certified organic inspector by International Organic Inspectors Association. He has many professional certificates in this aspect; Sweden, with sponsorship from SIDA, Israel with sponsorship from MASHAV and World Trade Organization/ International Trade Centre and United State of America from USDA. He was the Vice-Chair at the Pilot phase of the Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative - EOA (under the supervision of the African Union Commission) in 2012 and now a member of the Continental Steering Committee of the Initiative with activities in eight countries of Africa. The Ecological Organic Agriculture Initiative addresses food security in Africa and resilience of the system in response to the decision of the African Heads of State and Government in year 2010 - EX.CL/Dec.621 (XVII) on Organic Farming. He is a member of the Board of the African Organic Network and the Chair of the Research Thematic Group of the network. Among other national and international roles, he is currently the Secretary of West African Organic Network and the Vice-President of the Association of Organic Agriculture Practitioners of Nigeria. He is the Country Project Coordinator of EOA and Organic Agriculture Innovation Platform in Nigeria. Dr. AdeOluwa pioneered the Organic Vegetable Garden of the Teaching and Research Farm of the University of Ibadan in 2012 with funding by the University. He is a trainer on practical organic agriculture as a solution to food security and improvement of livelihoods.
